In Rottweil the traditions around the carnival are lovingly cultivated. The Rottweiler Narrenzunft is responsible for this. A non-profit association for the maintenance of the Fasnet traditions.
On the Dreikönigstag, on 6 January black-dressed gentlemen move by the city. These are the “dusters”, which symbolically free the fool dresses and hand-carved masks from the dust of the past year.
Here this day is called “the filthy one”. This is the last baking before Lent. “Dirty groups” wander through the Rottweiler taverns and gloss local events in a humorous way.
Today the fool guild takes over the city regiment. So-called “Ausscheller” loudly draw attention to the upcoming events. The children’s procession takes place on the afternoon of Carnival Sunday.
At 8.00 a.m. and on Tuesday additionally at 14.00 p.m. the big parades start with the “jumping fools”. Here you can also experience the magnificent hand-carved masks for the first time. Afterwards one spends a funny time in the streets and inns.
Already in the year 1310 the Fasnet finds documentary mention in Rottweil. But only in the 17th century the fool guild was mentioned for the first time. In the Rottweiler Fasnet still different fool dresses from the 19th century are to be admired.
